What to Do About a Clogged Toilet

HomeBlogWhat to Do About a Clogged Toilet

A clogged toilet is something nobody wants to have to deal with, especially considering what has usually caused the clog. However, the first thing to do when faced with a clogged toilet is not to panic. So long as it’s not overflowing, you can take your time and try out some different solutions:

What to Do About a Clogged Toilet

  • Hot water can be used to gently break up smaller clogs. Simply boil some water and pour it into your toilet bowl with enough force to flush it. If that doesn’t work, you can combine this with dish soap for an added element of lubrication.
  • Baking soda and vinegar can also be used. Pour them in, then close the toilet lid for ten to twenty minutes. The chemical reaction will hopefully force apart any debris causing your clogged toilet.
  • Use a plunger or plastic wrap. Plungers are usually a good bet for unclogging toilets. However, in a pinch, you can mimic the vacuum effect of a plunger using plastic wrap. Snugly stretch it over the rim of the toilet until it’s completely covered, then flush. This will create a vacuum similar to a plunger, but without having to slosh water around.
  • Drain snakes or wire hangers can also be used to break up particularly stubborn clogs. Unwrap the wire hanger until it is a long, single piece of metal similar to what a drain cleaner would be and insert it into the toilet bowl to start loosening the clog.

If all else fails, we at Mr. Plunger are here to provide professional help for all your clogs that are resistant to whatever methods you have at your disposal.
